Snow, Glass, Apples (November 2005). Digital Photographs. Daniel Mirer was the guest lecturer on Photography for an Intro to Art class I took at UCSD. I remember because he said something about art not being comfortable as Matisse wanted it, but being like swallowing glass. Anyway... The assignment that week was to "take a self-portrait as somebody else." I chose Snow White because I had recently read Neil Gaiman's retelling of the story, Snow, Glass, Apples, and thought it was an interesting spin on a familiar tale. These photos weren't meant to be viewed as a triptych. They are just my favorites from the shoot. Ultimately, I turned in the last one for critique. One classmate thought I was supposed to be Eve, to which my then-TA (Julia Dzwonkoski) replied: "They're pretty much the same, aren't they?" |
